Our Committees

The Jewish Services Committee is the steward of the shul’s religious life. Working in close consultation with the Rabbi and Council, the committee is responsible for davening, learning, ritual operations, the halachic standards that define the shul’s avodas Hashem. The committee owns the experience of every minyan and Yom Tov, the consistency and quality of shiurim, and the practical infrastructure (seats, lockers, mechitza, and gabbai coordination) that allows daily and weekly life to run smoothly. It also oversees standards, coverage, and quality for baalei tefillah, leiners, and gabbaim, and helps set Shabbos and Yom Tov decorum and policy, including expectations for the atmosphere of tefillah. Decisions about which weekday minyanim are sustainable, kashrus standards for home-prepared food brought to the shul, and the way security interacts with congregants on Shabbos all sit within this committee’s scope.

The Community Outreach Committee is the public face of the shul, both to prospective members and to current members during the meaningful moments of their lives. As the driving force behind the shul’s growth, the committee is responsible for thoughtful membership outreach, identifying and following up with prospects, and helping every newcomer feel seen, welcomed, and connected. At the same time, it maintains the shul’s chesed infrastructure — including Bikur Cholim, meal trains, baby support, and gift baskets for those who are ill or welcoming a new baby — while keeping a finger on the pulse of the community to recognize when members may benefit from a call, a visit from the rabbi or rebbetzin, a meal invitation, or other personal support during illness, simchas, and life transitions.

The Events Committee is responsible for shaping the social and celebratory life of the shul. Through weekly Kiddush, holiday programming, member milestones, and signature events such as Scholar-in-Residence weekend, the committee creates the shared experiences that turn a congregation into a community. The committee owns each event end-to-end — concept, budget, logistics, volunteer coordination, vendor management, and post-event reflection — while also building and developing a strong volunteer pipeline rather than simply staffing events one at a time. It is charged not only with planning celebrations, but with fostering in-shul culture and creating opportunities for meaningful connection across different segments of the membership, including newcomers, singles, families, and seniors. The committee also helps ensure that events are welcoming, inclusive, and reflective of the community the shul aspires to build. It coordinates closely with the Community Outreach Committee on member-touching aspects of events, with the Finance Committee on sponsorships and revenue, with the Youth Committee on programming that includes or impacts children and teens, and with the Jewish Services Committee on any programming that intersects with davening or learning.

The Youth Committee is responsible for the experience of every child and teen who walks into the shul — and for building the lifelong connection to shul, Yiddishkeit, and community that begins in those early years. The committee’s scope is consistent, recurring youth programming (Shabbos groups, weekly teen learning, ongoing engagement), in contrast to the Events Committee, which handles discrete, non-recurring events. It is also responsible for setting and maintaining appropriate standards for supervision, safety, and behavior, ensuring that the youth environment is safe, welcoming, and conducive to positive engagement. Working in partnership with parents and in coordination with Rabbi and Jewish Services Committee, the committee helps ensure that youth programming reflects the needs of families and the shul’s broader hashkafic and educational vision, while also creating pathways for children and teens to feel part of the larger shul community and eventually transition into active adult participation.

The Finance, Governance & Operations Committee is responsible for the financial, legal, and operational foundations that enable the shul to function as a strong, stable, and well-governed institution. It oversees budgeting, dues, financial administration, fundraising, cash-flow planning, reserve development, governance, legal and organizational matters, board development and elections, technology, security, facility coordination, and other essential operational systems. In the shul’s current formative stage, the committee is focused on building the institutional framework for long-term sustainability by strengthening financial systems and controls, improving payment and recordkeeping processes, establishing the shul’s legal and governance framework, preparing for the transition from an interim board to an elected board, strengthening policies and procedures, and putting in place the technology, security, and facility systems needed to support continued growth. The committee works to ensure that the shul operates responsibly, transparently, and effectively, with the resources and structures needed to serve the community well now and into the future.
